At the request of Leeds City Council, Year 5 have been taking part in a project on Air Quality. They have watched a play about the causes of air pollution, learnt about the Great Smog of 1952, taken readings of nitrogen dioxide levels around the school, had scooter training in the KS2 playground, and worked in groups to create a poster that shows the causes of air pollution and what actions we can all take to improve air quality. They have learnt that one of the main causes of air pollution is the nitrogen dioxide emitted from car exhausts and that this can be reduced if people don't leave their cars idling when they are stationary, and we all walk or scoot or cycle to car more often, therefore reducing the number of cars on the roads.
Below are photos of 5S and the posters they created. They will be sharing their research with the rest of the school in an assembly next term.
