3SL show what we know about rocks!

Leeds City Council Primary Debating Competition 2023 - the finals!

Back in March we entered two teams of 3 students for the Primary Debating Competition - one team from year 5 and one from year 6.

There were 30 teams in the heats, and while both of our teams performed brilliantly and won their individual debates, it was our Year 5 team who made it into the finals at Leeds Civic Hall on Monday 17th July.

It was a fantastic day, with the top 8 teams from across the heats meeting each other head-to-head in the official council chamber where actual LCC debates happen!

Against some really tough competition, our team performed brilliantly and made it all the way to the final – ultimately coming away with silver medals!!

We are so proud of Mo, Charlotte and Nika – they did an absolutely amazing job and represented our school fantastically!

Waiting to get started...

The Quarter Final  - We were arguing AGAINST the motion that "Disney films provide bad role models for children"

The Semi Final  - We were arguing FOR the motion that "Digital devices should replace books and paper in schools"

The Final  - We were arguing AGAINT the motion that "Schools should impose a 250m pedestrian zone around their sites"

Receiving our silver medals!

Mrs Dudley is very proud of her year 5 and 6 after school running club (and Mrs Brown) who completed the Couch to 5k today with their first ever (non-stop) 5km run! Thank you also to Mr Hever for supporting each week. Keep on running!

In Year 5, the children enjoyed their last art day of the year researching the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai and then created a fantastic mixed media picture inspired by 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa'.

Well done to our two Year 5 teams who participated in the Allerton Grange maths challenge. A great effort from all!

Year 5 had an amazing day out at West Leeds Activity Centre. They all participated in climbing, assault course, nightline, archery and the very popular water slide! Lots of children (and adults!) faced their fears head on and everyone had a go at all the challenging activities - well done Year 5!

Year 2 went to Tropical World with a focus in Science (Living Things and their Habitats / Plants) and Geography (Continents and Oceans). We learned lots about the tropical habitats and microhabitats of animals, plants and minibeasts alike!

Green Council braved the rain to carry out a tree identification study, as well as picking up litter, in Wigton Moor woods - 10th July 2023

Year 2 PSHE - We pre-assessed our knowledge of changes through life by discussing changes we may have already gone through and items people might want or need at different life stages.

Year 5 have been using their teamwork skills to design and make water filters in Geography. We think they were a great success!

Year 1 went on a geography field study to the local park.
