Leeds City Council Primary Debating Competition 2023 - the finals!
Back in March we entered two teams of 3 students for the Primary Debating Competition - one team from year 5 and one from year 6.
There were 30 teams in the heats, and while both of our teams performed brilliantly and won their individual debates, it was our Year 5 team who made it into the finals at Leeds Civic Hall on Monday 17th July.
It was a fantastic day, with the top 8 teams from across the heats meeting each other head-to-head in the official council chamber where actual LCC debates happen!
Against some really tough competition, our team performed brilliantly and made it all the way to the final – ultimately coming away with silver medals!!
We are so proud of Mo, Charlotte and Nika – they did an absolutely amazing job and represented our school fantastically!
Waiting to get started...
The Quarter Final - We were arguing AGAINST the motion that "Disney films provide bad role models for children"
The Semi Final - We were arguing FOR the motion that "Digital devices should replace books and paper in schools"
The Final - We were arguing AGAINT the motion that "Schools should impose a 250m pedestrian zone around their sites"
Receiving our silver medals!
Year 5 had an amazing day out at West Leeds Activity Centre. They all participated in climbing, assault course, nightline, archery and the very popular water slide! Lots of children (and adults!) faced their fears head on and everyone had a go at all the challenging activities - well done Year 5!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
